January 19, 2024The Community Benefits of PEFCU’s Focus on Health

Hello, again! Alyssa here, and it’s lovely to see you back to wrap up our chat about PEFCU’s community pillars!

So far, we have gone over PEFCU’s focus on both Education and the Environment, leaving Health as our third and final pillar!

Why Health Matters to PEFCU

In today’s fast-paced world, health and wellness have become increasingly important. Organizations like Publix Employees Federal Credit Union have focused on health-related organizations and making healthy habits a priority, which promotes a healthier workforce and contributes to the overall well-being of the community.

PEFCU’s Contribution to the Community

PEFCU has volunteered time, sponsored health-related initiatives, and donated money to several organizations, including Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine (LVIM), Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, March of Dimes, Southeastern Guide Dogs, National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, One Blood, Feeding America, and many more!

Our Jacksonville branch is extremely passionate about giving back to their local food banks!

PEFCU partners with the LVIM and Feeding America food pantries, hosts blood drives on behalf of One Blood, holds bake sales and fundraisers for March of Dimes, participates in 5K’s in support of a cure for Breast Cancer and mental health awareness, and sponsors major events such as the Lakeland Swan Derby to benefit working and uninsured residents in Lakeland. By gearing our efforts toward health-related initiatives, PEFCU contributes to the overall well-being of the community it serves.

Empowering Healthier Individuals

PEFCU’s emphasis on health empowers individuals within the organization to prioritize their well-being. By offering wellness programs, resources, and incentives, the credit union encourages associates to adopt healthy lifestyles. When individuals prioritize their health, they become more productive, engaged, and motivated. This empowerment extends beyond the workplace, as healthier associates positively impact their families and the broader community by setting an example and encouraging healthy habits.

One of the ways PEFCU incorporates health and wellness in the workplace is with our annual Wellness Day. On this day, each of our branches are set up with multiple wellness vendors with valuable information related to health and wellness. We have health food vendors with free samples, gym organizations promoting discounted fitness classes of all levels, yoga instructors teaching classes in our meeting rooms, and clinics with information relating to dermatology, podiatry, and more! It’s a fun and educational day full of raffles and giveaways that encourages our associates to get up and get moving!

In addition, PEFCU also has its own Health and Wellness newsletter called, “Healthy Perspectives” and offers quick and healthy meal recipes and touches on topics such as exercising after an injury, eating through the holidays, managing stress, financial spending, and our emotions, and so much more! It’s a great read and really empowers our associates to be more mindful about their physical, mental, emotional, and financial stresses and how to overcome them.

If that wasn’t enough, did you know that PEFCU offers their associates FREE health insurance through Cigna? This allows them to sign up for the Virgin Pulse Platform through Cigna, a behavior change system that offers a best-in-class, personalized digital health and well-being experience for every individual. It’s just another benefit of PEFCU that makes it a great workplace!

The Publix Employees Federal Credit Union’s emphasis on health goes beyond the well-being of its associates—it positively impacts the entire community. By empowering healthier individuals both in and outside of the workplace and promoting community well-being, PEFCU actively contributes to a healthier and more vibrant community. Through its focus on health, PEFCU demonstrates its commitment to the long-term well-being of its members and serves as a catalyst for positive change in the broader community.
