January 19, 2024The Community Benefits of PEFCU’s Environmental Focus

Hey, PEFCU fam! Alyssa here, and I am thrilled to be heading into the 2024 community outreach program here at the Publix Employees Federal Credit Union!

Did you know that PEFCU focuses on three main community pillars? These pillars are Environment, Health, and Education. This allows us the opportunity to focus on initiatives that matter the most to us.

I am going to briefly dive into why the environment is important to us and what we have done to implement eco-friendly practices in our local communities!

PEFCU’s Environmental Initiatives

PEFCU’s emphasis on the environment promotes a culture of conservational stewardship within the community. By implementing eco-friendly practices in our operations, the credit union becomes a role model for responsible environmental conduct. This creates a ripple effect, inspiring PEFCU associates, members, and other businesses and individuals in the community to adopt sustainable practices, leading to a cleaner, greener, more prosperous future for all!

Our Royal Palm Beach branch had a blast picking up trash on the beach at Loggerhead Marinelife Center!

The PEFCU staff and leadership have done an excellent job promoting eco-friendly practices for a long time, like recycling paper and ordering biodegradable paper products and promotional items. While these items may cost a little more, they will cost our Earth less damage overall!

One of our favorite initiatives is volunteering in our local communities; from pulling weeds at Bonnet Springs Park in Lakeland, to picking up trash at various springs and beaches surrounding our Altamonte Springs, Royal Palm Beach, and Pembroke Pines branches. We are dedicated to preserving the habitats of our local ecosystems!

Over the last two years, we have volunteered our time, sponsored community efforts, and donated money to several eco-friendly non-profit organizations. Some of these organizations include Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, Save the Manatee, Bonnet Springs Park, Heal the Planet, Blue Springs Park, Newberry Soil and Water Conservation, and more! This is to help them continue their research and plans for conservation.

Our Pembroke Pines branch teamed up with Heal the Planet for a beach cleanup!

A clean, healthy environment is linked to community well-being. As environmental concerns grow, organizations across various industries recognize the importance of prioritizing sustainable practices. The PEFCU is no exception. By prioritizing the environment, PEFCU contributes to the conservation and protection of a healthier planet!

Our Lakeland branch participated in a trash cleanup at Bonnet Springs Park!

We would love to hear about which eco-friendly non-profits are near and dear to your heart, so tell us in the comments below! For any questions or suggestions regarding our practices, please reach out to me, Alyssa, at [email protected]! I look forward to hearing from you!

Let’s make this year a great one!

Alyssa Ronan, Community Engagement Specialist

Alyssa began her career with the Publix Employees Federal Credit Union in
January 2022 after almost 9 years of experience with Publix Super Markets, Inc. At
the credit union, she found her passion for fundraising and philanthropy. Alyssa
enjoys engaging with the community through marketing events and community
service efforts. Some of Alyssa’s favorite non-profits are the SPCA, Lakeland
Volunteers in Medicine, and the Guardian ad Litem program. When she’s not
indulging in her work, she loves traveling, attending baseball games, and
spending time with her family and her Great Dane, “Lemon.” Alyssa is enthusiastic
about continuing to make a name for PEFCU in the community while creating
long-lasting partnerships with the non-profits that spread across our footprint.
